Louise has a smokey, clear, well-modulated voice that is a pleasure to listen to. She also has a knack for picking supporting performers, including Richard Gates on bass, Seth Farber on organ and accordion, Ray Bonneville on acoustic guitar, harmonica and backing vocals. Peter Galway contributes with electric guitar, vocals, and co-production.

The songs are mostly written by Louise except for one number by Ray Bonneville and another by Wendy Beckerman. The songs are of relationships but with a healthy dose of metaphor. Cherry trees, birds flying over mountains, doves, and bends in the road are just some of the ways Louise describes relationships.

Most of these songs have a strong driving beat to them. Combined with the strong writing, the whole tapestry of the album is woven with bright colors and beautiful highlights.

Louise is still growing in both her writing and her performing skills. It is a pleasure to grow along with her. Written in Red is her 4th album and first since 1997. It’s a gem. --- Sing-out Magazine
